OBAYASHI Begins Validation of RICOS AI-CAE Solution to Accelerate Wind Load Analysis with RICOS Lightning

RICOS Co. Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Yu Ihara; hereinafter “RICOS”) is pleased to announce that it has begun a validation project with OBAYASHI CORPORATION (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Toshimi Sato; hereinafter “Obayashi”) using RICOS’s AI-CAE solution. Obayashi has begun evaluating the use of RICOS Lightning, RICOS’s AI-CAE solution, to predict wind loads on buildings using machine learning technology.
Wind tunnel testing and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) are commonly used to evaluate wind loads on buildings. However, these methods can require substantial computation time when assessing numerous wind directions and building geometries. In this project, RICOS Lightning will be used to predict wind loads on buildings. The goal is to enable the rapid evaluation of a wide range of conditions and improve the efficiency of the design process.

RICOS Lightning incorporates IsoGCN, a proprietary AI algorithm developed by RICOS that enables fast and highly accurate prediction of simulation results. Designed specifically for simulation data, IsoGCN offers the following four key features:
High-speed computation: By reducing the computational workload compared with conventional simulations, IsoGCN enables significant acceleration of simulation processes.
Detailed understanding of 3D data: IsoGCN can capture complex three-dimensional geometries in detail, making it well suited to the intricate shapes commonly encountered in product design and engineering.
Potential for geometric extrapolation: By incorporating methodologies used in fluid, thermal, and structural analysis, the algorithm can provide reliable predictions even for previously unseen product geometries, similar to conventional simulation approaches.
Ease of use: RICOS Lightning can reduce the need for the rigorous meshing processes traditionally required for CAE simulations. This helps shorten the learning curve for simulation users and enables broader use by designers, product engineers, and other professionals who are not dedicated CAE specialists.
RICOS Lightning has demonstrated the ability to reduce simulation times from several days to just a few minutes while maintaining sufficient accuracy. Faster access to simulation results also brings real-time product design closer to reality. Previous applications include automotive aerodynamic analysis, thermal analysis of electronic components, and thermo-fluid analysis of gases.
